Course Overview - Physics 11/12 @ Clearwater SEcondary
Physics looks at the underlying forces and energies that explain the universe from the largest scale to the smallest scale. Physics 11 does not cover every topic but does provide a balanced introduction to the subject. Physics is the most mathematical of the sciences although the math required for Physics 11 is covered in Math 10. Physics 12 reviews many of the topics covered in Physics 11 but looks at them in two dimensions instead of one.
I love science and Physics in particular. I find my knowledge of physics helps me better understand the world around me, appreciate the inner beauty of things, and be able to understand many societal issues from a unique perspective.
Physics 11
Kinematics, study of motion
Newton's Laws and Forces
Energy and Heat
Relativity, Einstein
Waves, Light
Physics 12
Kinematics, study of motion
Momentum
Static Equilibrium
Circular Motion and Gravity
Static Electricity
Electromagnetism
The course will be as hands on as possible with many labs and demonstrations.
The delivery of the course will be a blended model, with both face to face and online components. As I teach both Physics 11 and 12 in the same block we will meet face to face about 50% of the time, during which I will do some traditional lecture style presentation of topics and examples, hands on demonstrations, guide you in lab work, and provide some one on one instruction matched to your ability.
Access to a device, such as a smart phone, itouch or any tablet, will aid you in accessing the course content which will largely be housed online here on this website. You will also have access to a number of texts which may be useful to you for some topics.
Suggestions for additions or corrections to the site are always appreciated.
